Wordpress.org is going to have much more authority, links and content as a "whole" and that has great opportunities to use that to build authority and traffic to you own website. It's all parts of the puzzles that we'll put together, but yes, I still highly suggest having a self hosted Wordpress Blog, it's just important to remember that you don't need one or the other, use it as a full online marketing campaign. Don’t ditch your wordpress.org blog just re-purpose.
