My Work at Home Story… in a nutshell…
After launching my business a few years ago, I was frustrated trying to understand why I couldn’t get traffic after spending more then a pocketful of change on a website, merchant accounts, shopping carts, buying advertising, and doing link exchange after link exchange. All while trying to balance a household and small kids. And, I’ll admit, not everyone was very supportive after all, I had never had my own business before and I had limited (very limited) technical & marketing knowledge.
Well, I was determined to be a success, so I buckled down and started to learn everything I could about online marketing, talking to those that had success, and those that had failures.
I bought books, ebooks, systems, consultations and studied the tactics of online marketing experts while teaching myself through testing, testing, testing. My blog disappeared into never never land more times then I can count before I got smart and learned about the world of “back up”. And oh did I mention the $4261.00 dollars in my online education so far? ouch.
So you’re asking why I spent so much? Because I had hit a wall. I had built the website and spent money on pay-per-click adds, made banners for advertising and sent out press releases. All had little bits of success, well, one press release gave me $10,000.00 in sales in one weekend, but that’s another story.
I had built my business to a point where I couldn’t crack my visitors and I couldn’t get better conversion rates or consistency in my sales. I was so sucked into the small nitty gritty operations of my business I needed to invest in my own education to grow.
I found it frustrating not knowing what information to trust on the internet, lack of time trying to find the information I needed when I needed it and not getting side tracked with the information I didn’t need, having information overload and the hardest part, trying to understand how all the pieces fit together without spending a lot of money and wasted time- neither of which I had and both of what I ended up wasting even more of.
So just this weekend, I was watching “The Secret” with my husband and we started chatting about how the movie was put together and what the “take away” lessons were. Then we finished up the night and went to bed. Then at 2 a.m. it hit me, I was wide awake and decided that I can help the most people by walking through a process step by step. Just as I have been watching and learning from everyone around me, I can now filter this to a large number of people all at once and provide the information and lessons that actually work and show results. Now, I’ve put some of the techniques to work here and there and have had success like my own web traffic growing by 30% every month or the one blog post that got over 4000 hits in 2 days.
I’ve had this domain, http://www.moms-business-coach.com, for a little while now and have been playing with it here and there trying to determine it’s destiny and Voila, just like in “The Secret” the Universe delivered the answer.
My Challenge
Remember all those ebooks and notebooks full of notes and lessons that I have been learning from the experts? Is it possible to put it all into action as a one woman show (with four kids hanging on me?) and not having a full staff to delegate out to? Can I put the strategies into place to launch an entire business- not just a blog, a BUSINESS?
I decided to challenge myself and while I initially wanted to claim that “I’ll make $10,000.00 in 30 Days with a brand new blog from scratch” I think there is only so much the “Universe” can deliver into my mailbox and I don’t want this project to make me feel bad because it’s really all about sharing what I have learned and seeing if I can put all the steps into practice and teaching others these tricks that will help you keep your online business sanity.
