We see them every day, Free Offers or Free Trials for supplements, weight loss trial products, phone consultations, you name it, someone is offering a deal… do you ignore them?
While many people may hesitate to come straight out and buy a product, (because we tend to be skeptical right off the bat), it is a very viable business marketing strategy.
I started thinking about this the other day when I was on a forum and someone was offering a set of videos on YouTube marketing. I hesitated and wondered if he would actually show me something I didn’t already know. If he was another “one of those” experts…but his sales page had an interesting twist.
He used Paypal and set the price at $0.00 and let you have a 7 day preview of the videos for free before he charged your Paypal account. Well, what the heck do I have to lose? If his videos actually provide value I can pay for the product before he even actually charges me. If I watch the videos and think they are worthless, I’ll send him an email and say no Thank You. Brilliant strategy don’t you think?
As a customer it took the threat away, and I hit the buy now button. I know, as a business owner I’m sure you are thinking, “Well, anyone can do that, take the info and still not have to pay for it and he’s out the buck”.. but really? Have we become that skeptical of our fellow solopreneurs?
Yes, there will always be a few bad apples, but the potential of gaining 30 new customers and having one bad apple, far outweighs 30 potentials not trying it because they think they’ve seen it all before. And yes, I did learn some great new tricks and resources that I’m POSITIVE will pay for the videos in less then 7 days. It’s a win win!
My next case study: I choose Acai Fruit because it was one of the products that the infamous talk show hostess, Oprah, promoted in one of her shows that suddenly made it one of the hottest sellers on the market. Acai Fruit Weight Loss is something I wouldn’t have known about but now it’s all over the place.
What do you consider more, the benefits that include:
- Helps you lose weight
- Increase metabolism
- Increase fat oxidation
- Fight fatigue
Or the power of word of mouth marketing and celebrity, authority branding?
The fact that they promoted a free trial backed by the authority branding and by the way, the talk show hostess isn’t the only “authority bling” this product is promoting but other major media coverage as well, but I bet most people jumped on the free trial offer because it came from a trusted source AND it was free so what is there to lose? They know that if it doesn’t work for them, they just cancel before the next shipment.
That is the BIG risk to the business.. it MUST deliver. They have their reputation on the line! The product must at least deliver what it promises, if not OVERDELIVER, in order to keep their new customers happy because it’s those new customers that will make them money going forward so they want you to be successful.
Also, remember the word of mouth strategy? How many women do you think talk about Acai Fruit and Acai Berry Weight Loss over coffee at their morning playgroups? I’m not trying to assume I know their exact target market, but losing baby weight, hot talk shows and looking good are all topics I can relate too!
Ok, so that is my “thought of the day” for how to infuse more customers into your business fast, what do you have that you can offer them a free trial for? Again, think about the potential and if you overdeliver you couldn’t gain a ton of new customers fast!
